THE LITTLE GIN GUY

- The litle gin guy is a bronze statue on the Vismarkt in Hasselt, designed by Lou Boonman and unveiled in 1981. It celebrates the city’s long-standing jenever tradition.
- The figure shows a little man pouring jenever from a cask while sitting on an ox, with piglets in between – symbolizing the cycle of grain → jenever → animal feed → manure → agriculture.
- On the Day of Hasselt Jenever, the statue is dressed in special outfits and symbolic jenever flows from the cask, honoring this beloved local tradition.
