THE LITLE GIN LADY

- HET BORRELVROUWTJE (LITLE GIN LADY)
- A bronze fountain sculpture on Capucienenplein, designed by Lou Boonman and unveiled in 1981. Along with the Borrelmanneke, it symbolizes Hasselt’s jenever (gin) tradition.
- The statue depicts a woman wearing a hat, sitting on a barrel with a jenever bottle, with a snake at her feet as a reference to local folklore.
- It honors the role of women in jenever production and the city’s hospitality. During the annual Jeneverfeesten, the Borrelvrouwtje treats visitors to jenever.
