• On the Grote Markt stands the beloved sculpture duo “Hendrik and Katrien”, officially titled Listening to the Carillon. This bronze artwork by Marc Cox was unveiled in 1989 and depicts a young couple holding hands, gazing toward the future. Locally, the name refers to the mythical first inhabitants of Hasselt. Over the years, it has become one of the city’s most photographed landmarks.
