MUSEUM FATHER VALENTIN

- MUSEUM HEILIG PATERKE (HOLY FATHER)
The man behind the name is Valentinus Paquay (1828–1905), born in Tongeren, a Franciscan friar (Minor Brother), known in Hasselt as the “Heilig Paterke” (“Holy Little Father”).
In 2003, he was beatified by Pope John Paul II.

Location
The museum is housed in the former infirmary of the Franciscan monastery in Hasselt, next to the Minderbroederskerk (St. Rochus Church) and the burial chapel of the Paterke.
Accessibility
The burial chapel is accessible for wheelchair users; the museum itself is not.
What to See
– Personal belongings (clothing, furniture from his family home, family portraits)
– Reconstruction of his cell, infirmary chapel, and apostolic work in Hasselt
– Objects from his life as preacher, confessor, devotional items, and artifacts related to his beatification
– The deathbed of Father Valentinus Paquay is also on display
Founded
The museum was established in 1947 in the former infirmary of the monastery.
Management
The Valentinus Paquay Vice-Postulation oversees the museum, burial chapel, shop, and publications.
Practical Information
Opening Hours
Monday to Friday: usually mornings and afternoons (e.g. 9:00–11:30 & 13:30–16:30) on selected days.
Saturday and the first Sunday of the month: limited morning hours.
Closed on certain holidays and some afternoons.
Admission / Price
The museum is free to visit.
